Plasma is a mixture of ions and free radicals, formed naturally by lightning, which is why air feels so fresh after a thunderstorm. Here at Plasma Clean we have harnessed the natural cleansing abilities of plasma inside a safe low power cartridge. Powered by a mains connection, plasma inside a cartridge is activated. This process oxidises and purifies ambient air to help in the removal of harmful or unwanted substances such as volatile organic compounds and odours. These are converted into harmless by-products such as carbon dioxide and water. This is how Plasma Cleans' technology purifies and cleans ambient air.

The technology was originally developed in the School of Chemistry at the University of Manchester, UK by Prof. Christopher Whitehead who is interested in understanding chemical interactions in the gaseous environment of a plasma discharge. Essentially, plasma reacts with airborne pollutants such as VOCs and odours, and converts them into carbon dioxide and water. This is a process whose results are similar to combustion but with much lower energy demands.
